Shiho Nage

The four-direction throw, Shiho Nage, is a favourite technique of mine, although I can't pretend to know nearly enough about it. One of our visiting teachers (and Sensei Chris's old teacher) is Sensei John Harding, who once said that "Shihonage could be a martial art on its own". I can't remember whether it was O'Sensei himself of Gozo Shioda who said "All of Aikido is in Shihonage".

There seem to be many different variations and modulations of Shihonage that use different movements, and allow projection in different ways. At the Abbe Sensei celebration, there were many different styles on offer, some of which can be seen on the video.
